International School of Midwifery
Out of State Learning Programs
** Although these programs are not MEAC certified, graduates of these programs take the NARM and get their Florida licensing. Florida licensing is reciprocal with California and almost all other states that recognize midwives. Contrary to some websites, licensing is not an issue.
The International School of Midwifery (ISOM) is trying to make it easier for students to achieve their goals by offering a variety of ways to get your midwifery license. The last three semesters, at this time, must be completed at the primary clinical site, Miami Maternity Center, in Miami, Florida. The following options are offered to complete the first three semesters at locations other than the International School of Midwifery.
1) Regionally accredited college-level courses in selected areas.
OR
2) Attend an out-of-state 14-16 month program offered by the ISOM in either Colorado or California.
*Credit may be received for work experience in a similar job field. Please contact ISOM for more information.
Out-of-state learning programs cost $1500 per semester and are expected to start in August of 2008. A minimum of 10 students are required in order for these classes to be held. Classes will be held Thursday through Sunday, one weekend per month. After completing three semesters of classroom eduction, students will come to Miami for their clinical experience. At that time, fees will be at the monthly rate of $100 (lab fees.)
The application process will remain the same, but students must indicate a preference for the BOULDER, COLORADO, or SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA location when submitting their forms. Completion of this program will enable students to qualify for licensure in several states including New Mexico, Texas, California, and Florida. Please contact the Miami office at 305-754-2229 for more information.
